If you don’t have a large number of items on your site for sale, a PayPal button may be all you need to bring in a little cash or to subsidize the cost of shipping a promotional item (ideal use case). If you don’t already have a company PayPal account, establishing one is easy.

Although this video covers the “Donate” function, the sales function are similar and similarly easy to set up.

It’s a dirty job, but somebody is going to have to be the Facebook-Twitter-Yelp-Flick’r-YouTube functionary in your office. If you had been paying attention, you would have noticed that a large fraction of your officemates’ time was being spent dinking around online with social media apps anyway; why not nominate one of those slackers to be your web representative? The Wall Street Journal WSJ Blogs (a WordPress joint, BTW) suggests this very thing:

As social media grows, many executives and business owners are trying to figure out what difference a tweet or Facebook post can make to their bottom lines. And as a recent Wall Street Journal article points out, it’s often the younger employees in the workplace who are leading the way. “In the companies where we see a high-level executive really ‘getting it,’ there’s a younger person in the company helping them understand it,” said Laura Fitton, whose company Pistachio Consulting coaches executives on how to use Twitter for business.

Web Design And Logo Design

my life's logos Image by captcreate via Flickr

Call 727-894-5266 or email us to get a free quote or consultation from Seven North Web Design & Graphics of St Petersburg, Tampa Bay, Florida. Your logo can be the centerpiece of your web design, or it can appear to be just a tacked-on afterthought. The difference is not only in the thoughtfulness and skill of your web designer, but in the design of your logo itself. Some designs are more flexible and better for web page headers than others. If you are thinking about re-designing your corporate identity package, think about how your logo will look on your web-site. Although not specifically concerned with logo design as it pertains to web design, this article from Crowdspring.com addresses the broadest concerns of the logo design client: From “10 Logo Design Tips For Buyers”

4. Flexible A logo should be visible and distinguishable on a big billboard from 100 meters away or on a small business card from to 20 millimeters away. It should also work well in different size formats like for example on business cards, brochure, t-shirt design and other marketing materials such as embroidery, stamping, embossing, etc. A good logo will work well in many colors and in just one or two colors (yes, black is a color). A good logo will work well on light backgrounds as well as dark backgrounds, even on multicolored backgrounds. Many start-ups and smaller companies use their logo on a few marketing materials but use something else on other materials. Be sure that you use your logo consistently and be sure that your logo allows you the flexibility to do so in multiple formats.

Twitter brings the To Go orders and a new sense of community. If they can do it in Houston, it can be done in St Petersburg:

Nothing can build your brand faster than being or doing something remarkable. Seth Godin, author of the recently released Tribes calls this becoming “The Purple Cow”. Cohen didn’t set out to become a Purple Cow – but with one brief 140 character message – that’s exactly what he’s done.

On October 31st, 2008 Sean Stoner (@maslowbeer) was hungry. As a regular customer at CoffeeGroundz he sent the following Twitter to Cohen:

Visibility In A Social Media World

From Online Marketing Blog

http://www.toprankblog.com/

Traditional marketing tactics would emphasize making an offer that makes so much sense, like swapping a messy icebox for a modern refrigerator at the same cost; consumers would “buy in”.

The problem with continuing to rely on that model of marketing is increasing numbers of consumers ignore formal marketing messages and offers. If they don’t notice the offer, they can’t respond to it.

As the social web eliminates physical boundaries for making connections with friends, family, like minded individuals and even the brands people buy from, there’s more interest in a participatory or social marketing process. Consumers connect about things of interest to them and brands have an opportunity to listen and engage in conversations in a way that demonstrates the value of their products and services. There’s an opportunity to provide value, before seeing a direct return. The give to get principle for social media participation by brands results in goodwill, educated consumers and buzz.

A good example of that includes creating social network groups to provide consumers a place to socialize and for brands to introduce new products, gain feedback, crowd source ideas, “energize” brand evangelists and listen/respond to concerns. Mashable has a good write up on brands that use Facebook Fan pages that do this such as Pringles, Coca Cola, Starbucks, Adidas and Red Bull.

U.S. Government Agencies Use WordPress

Uncle Sam. Image via Wikipedia

Not necessarily the best recommendation, but in this case I’m proud that Uncle Sam uses open source software like WordPress so widely. This list is from M. Jaquith, who writes the fine Mark on WordPress.

Here is a list (probably not all-inclusive) of United States government agencies or organizations using WordPress (whether privately or publicly):

Air Force Army Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Coast Guard Defense Intelligence Agency Department of Energy Department of Homeland Security Department of State Department of Treasury Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Marine Corps Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) National Geospatial Intelligence Agency National Reconnaissance Agency National Security Agency (NSA) Navy

WordPress is slowly making it’s way into the corporate world as well: Yahoo, CNN, New York Times, Ford, Nike are just a few of big names that implemented it for it’s ease of use, fast development times, cost reduction and easy maintenance of the platform. Oh… and U.S. Government Agencies are also using WordPress.

Marketing With Twitter In Your Neighborhood

Image representing Twitter as depicted in Crun... Image via CrunchBase

(Via Mashable)

Your business is primarily local in scope– How do you use Twitter to build community and market your products within a few miles of your office?

Finding local Twitter users to connect with is great for networking, but also for getting relevant, real-time, local information about things like jobs, news, politics, weather, food, and more. Someone tweeting from London can’t help you find a good place to eat in New York City, and if you live in Chicago, tweets about the weather in Los Angeles won’t be very enlightening. Here are nine ways to locate Twitter users in your town to help you get the most out of Twitter.
